LENARD D. MOORE received the North Carolina Award for Literature, the state’s highest civilian honor, in 2014.
Founder and Executive Director of the Carolina African American Writers’ Collective and co-founder of the Washington Street Writers Group, Moore’s forthcoming poetry collection is The Geography of Jazz. His poems, short stories, essays, and reviews have appeared in over 400 publications and 100 anthologies. He currently teaches Advanced Poetry Writing and African American Literature at the University of Mount Olive, where he directs the literary festival.
On this episode, Lenard and I talk about haiku and related poetic forms; how poetics and jazz share a certain spirit; and Lenard graciously takes time out of his busy schedule to read some of his poetry.
